To Whom Much is Given

By Pastor Butch Paugh

Luke 12:48(b) – “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required and to whom men have committed much, of him will they ask the more”.

Honestly folks, we had it all!! We were so blessed by a righteous and just God. A Holy God that takes great pleasure in blessing a people that honor Him, and as much as humanly possible strive to obey Him by following His commandments to live a morally pure life and righteous life before men and God. (Deut. 28:2)

There is a twofold witness in Luke 12:48. One from God Himself to warn us how much more accountable a people who have been greatly blessed are than those who have never known the way of truth. In II Peter 2:20-21, we are told and warned that if a people escaped the pollutions (sins and abominations) of the world through Christ our Savior, and they become again entangled (accept and commit evil) that they are worse off than before they knew salvation through Jesus Christ! The basic same warning is given to individuals and nations in Heb. 10:26-31. Greater is the damnation of a people who once knew liberty through the blood of Christ and turned from God and in so doing insulted the Spirit (Holy Spirit) of grace!

to-whom-much-is-given-much-is-expected--9This warning certainly extends to a nation that once was blessed with the liberty of Christ as well as individuals. Folks, nations are made up of individuals! Just as our bodies are made up of individual members, so is a society. When a healthy body has members that become diseased (corrupted), those members must be healed or purged from that body, or the whole body will become diseased (corrupted), suffer and die! That is the righteous judgment of a Holy God on sin! (James 1:15) A people who turn their backs on the God that conceived them and brought them forth as a nation will be destroyed!

The second warning is another witness against our once great and blessed nation. Out of two or three witnesses a matter is resolved and just judgment brought forth. (Heb. 10:28) The second witness consists of the men that prayed, worked, sweated and shed their blood to give us a God-centered form of government. Perfect? Of course not!! Best ever in history? Absolutely! A republic built on the divine inspiration that a righteous people of stout moral integrity should be free to govern themselves without outside coercion and force. These men (and women) we call our Founding Fathers strived with every fiber of their being to bring forth, confirm and establish a free society governed by a righteous people. They painstakingly wrote their thoughts and motivating reason on how and why they did so! Then they put in the clearest and most concise way possible the instructions on how to maintain a righteous government in order to keep a blessed nation protected by God! We blew it! The greater we were blessed, the more we forgot God and sinned again Him! (Heb. 4:7)

The almighty Yahweh, God Himself, bears witness against us! And to fulfill His own righteous judgment, He has brought forth another to be a witness against us! (Heb. 10:28) our Founding Fathers! Righteous judgment has been pronounced and righteous justice will be done! As in a proving article I wrote titled “To Sin Beyond Redemption”, America has been weighed in the balance and found wanting. Judgment has already begun! We are and will continue to be turned into hell as He promised (Ps. 9:17)

Reach, teach, and deliver all you can while you can! The darkness cometh! (John 9:4—Jude 23)
