Index Card Game MINISTRY TIP

By Rev. Doug Forbes

Our names are important to God!  Just look at the lists of names in the Bible.  We are God’s special creations, and He loves each one of us.  The Index Card Game can help us learn and remember each other’s names and it’s a great mixer too.

To play the Index Card Game you need:  Bibles, Bible concordances, index cards, pens and adventurous spirits.

Index Card GamePass out index cards and pens and ask each student to write any interesting fact about themselves on their card.  The teacher then collects the cards, shuffles them and gives each student a card.  (Make sure that no one receives their own card back.)  The students must then identify whose card they received.  Once they find the person, they must learn their names and another fact about them.  Then, they must introduce the card writer to someone else in the group by sharing their name and the two facts.  That way everyone gets to meet two people, learn their names and two fun facts about them.

For a Bible study, ask your young people to use their Bibles and concordances to find lists of names in the Bible.  Break into two teams and see which group can find the most names in a prescribed period of time.)  (You may wish to give the members of the winning team a small prize.)

For a fun fact read Genesis 2:19&20 and explain that one of Adam’s first jobs was to name all the animals.  Ask your students to turn to Proverbs 22:1A which says that: “A good name is more desirable than great riches.”

Explain how we should love God and follow him.  We can do that by making positive decisions and by helping others.  When we help others, God will reward us and make our names great in Heaven.
