Mitch McVicker, Christian singer/songwriter and Dove Award winner, returns to Rhode Island this month featuring his most recent release, Underneath. Mitch’s current release touches the deep yet practical truths and mysterious beauty of the Kingdom of God. He provides an evening of music and testimony that entertains, engages and invites the listener to journey with him into Jesus’ teachings that the Kingdom of God does not lie on the surface.
McVicker, a Kansas native currently living in Atlanta with his wife and two children, returns after his 2013 spring tour. Asserting his deep-lyric, folk-rock style, this production offers some “sonic surprises”. He describes cuts: “Savior, Savior” as ethereal and bare-boned, “Come Back to Your Heart” as rollicking and Irish-sounding, “Underneath” as 70’s funk, and “The Way Up is the Way Down” as quirky. His career has spanned 15 years, 9 cds and 1300 concerts and his travels have covered 49 states and 12 countries.
McVicker’s journey began by performing with the late Rich Mullins; the two of them garnered a Dove Award for penning the song “My Deliverer”. McVicker was in the car-wreck that took Mullins life and he was left with broken bones, collapsed lungs, a coma-induced head injury and a long recovery.
Creative, inspiring testimony and music is the evening’s offering. Admission is free, however, a love offering will be taken. The 2014 concert is set for Sunday, October 12 (the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend) at 7 p.m. The building is handicapped accessible located at 60 N. Main Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895.
