Strongholds That Will Destroy Your Life

By GNT Staff

Whenever we allow a stronghold to gain power– the consequences often spread to every area of our lives.

But instead of feeding your strongholds, you can slay them with the Word of Christ – but first you have to know what they are. Here are 3 of the deadliest strongholds you might not even realize you have that could be ruining your life.

Bitterness

At this point in our lives – many of us have been wounded by someone we love and trust. While often we have our own part in the destruction of a relationship – sometimes it truly is due to the sin of another. Regardless of who is “at fault” – it’s crucial to not allow bitterness to overtake your soul.

A person who is bitter constantly walks around with a chip on their shoulder and has a bad attitude towards everything – and everyone. The more one feeds bitterness, the harder it is to be thankful and appreciate all the ways God has been faithful through the years.

Instead of allowing bitterness to take root in your heart – be quick to forgive others – and confess your bitterness to God, asking Him to remove it.

Perfectionism

Many of us still believe the lie that we have to be “perfect” in order to earn God’s love and be saved. Not only is works-based salvation not even Biblical – but it isn’t even possible! We all fall short – and we will make mistakes.

Jesus was the only perfect one who ever walked this earth, as fully God and fully man. As Christians, while we should do all things with excellence – we must stop trying to live up to the false self-image of being “perfect.”

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Despair

Life on this side of heaven brings its series of challenges – and while God promises justice – it doesn’t always happen in this life. It can be tempting to focus on the bad – but an absence of hope is a deadly poison that will destroy your life.

If you find yourself struggling with despair, it’s crucial to remember the hope we all have in Christ Jesus. He is our eternal hope – and while bad things will happen because we live in a sinful world, don’t fall prey to the lies of the enemy that all hope is lost. Jesus has already won the battle – so walk in His victory.

Identify Them – And Slay Them

Sin is not a toy, and it must be slayed at the altar. From broken trust to destroyed relationships, to depression and anxiety – nothing good can come from feeding a stronghold in your life.

But despite whatever you struggle with – know that you aren’t alone – and there are other Christians who struggle too. Consider Christian counseling or Celebrate Recovery as a way to help you overcome your struggles. And make sure you spend time in God’s Word daily, asking Him to renew your mind.

Strongholds can be tough to beat – but Jesus is stronger – and if you humble yourself and cry out to Him – He will help you. So be encouraged and keep the faith.
