Providence, RI -The Rhode Island Center for Freedom & Prosperity is proud to announce that the prestigious Middendorf Pillar of Freedom Award for 2018 was awarded to Dr. Daniel Harrop at its 2nd annual Ocean State Freedom Banquet.

The luncheon, was held at the Providence Hilton Hotel, the largest annual gathering of conservatives in Rhode Island, and attracted over 200 attendees, including a bi-partisan mix of elected officials, candidates for office, business leaders, and coalition-partner organizations.

The keynote speaker, nationally-renowned economist and Trump Campaign economic adviser, Stephen Moore, discussed the historic 2017 federal tax cuts as well as his just-released book, Trumponomics. Moore is currently the Chief Economist and a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

In being feted as the 2018 winner of the Pillar of Freedom Award, Dr. Harrop, who was the founding Chairman of the Center, was recognized for his outstanding personal history of helping people both professionally as a psychiatrist and as a philanthropist. Additionally, Harrop’s support of the Catholic Church, as well as his long record of civic and political engagement, were highlighted. A more complete write-up of Harrop’s career of accomplishments can be viewed on the Center’s website.

“Quite simply, without Dan Harrop, there would not be a RI Center for Freedom & Prosperity,” exclaimed the Center’s CEO, Mike Stenhouse. “He is incredibly deserving of this honor.”

The Award is named in honor of Ambassador J. William Middendorf, former Secretary of the Navy and current Heritage Foundation board member, and who is perhaps Rhode Island’s greatest living defender of freedom. The three pillars this award is based upon are: 1) Entrepreneurial or free-market business leadership, 2) Civic engagement, and 3) Record of philanthropic giving or charitable organization volunteerism.
